It's now about 10:30 PM and I'm just now getting around to typing up my notes for today but not because I'm just getting home from the day. It's not going to take me very long to type them up anyway.
Today was rather a wasted day, but kind of unavoidably so which was too bad because the weather today turned out to be pretty nice with none of the heavy rain and thunderstorms that had been predicted the last couple of days.
I had absolutely no trouble getting my laundry downstairs to the reception desk before 9 AM but that was mostly due to my not having been able to go to sleep at all last night. I was in bed before 1 AM and shortly realized that even though I was quite tired I wasn't sleepy and too awake for some reason to be able to fall asleep.
I was rather annoyed at myself. I've been hoping to get some sort of update about the work being done at my home, and haven't heard from either of the contractors or my insurance adjuster. I told myself lying there awake worrying about it, if that's what was going on, made absolutely no sense whatever since even if I wanted to call them right away not only was it the middle of the night here but Florida is in addition five hours behind us so I'd probably have to wait at least until after 2:30 or 3:00 PM to get hold of anyone.
I watched something streaming and read on my electronic devices until about 8 AM when I got up to take a shower and get dressed before taking my dirty clothes down to the reception desk.
From then on I felt rather crappy all day, slighly dizzy and shaky with stomach problems and not far from nausea. I sure didn't feel like having breakfast but I had my last Slimfast instead. I pretty much just went back to bed and tried to go back to sleep but couldn't all morning. I finally gave up and went across the street to the Richoux for lunch. I had their croque madame (ham & cheese toastie with a poached egg, which they placed on top so I flipped the top crust to put the egg between).
I just hung out here the rest of the day, going downstairs when housekeeping came to clean my room. I was able to fall asleep for a bit in late afternoon but not for long. I spent quite a bit of time working on updating my playlists for all the Celtic, world & Renaissance Festival podcasts I listen to, including (finally) the RFP episode featuring this year's Florida Renaissance Festival this past March & April, featuring and hosted by many of the musicians who came to dinner at my house and two interviews recorded at my dining table. (I'm listening to it now, and love it.)
One of my friends at the reception desk brought my clean laundry up before I went out to dinner.
I left around 6:30 PM. I went across the street to Ask Italian again, because I knew that their rissotto with chicken and mushrooms wouldn't upset my still somewhat unruly stomach and it didn't. Before I came back here to my room I was able to find a small table at the Starbucks and had one of their iced tea/lemonade combos.
It's now only 11 PM, and I'm done typing up my notes for today. I've already sorted and put away all my newly cleaned clothes and am having a cup of the hotel's decent instant decaf coffee with a shot of my Waitrose whiskey. I'll have my ususal small fruit cup soon while I watch something streaming.
I sure hope I sleep better and longer than I've done lately.
I have my first concert at St Martin in the Fields tomorrow night at 7:30 PM and will probably have dinner somewhere nearby. I want to call at least my insurance adjuster sometime between 3 and 7 PM our time tomorrow and see I can get someone to send me an update by email. I want to remind him that I'd really love to be able to move back into my own home when I get back from London on the 17th. I of course won't tell him I already have made a reservation at the Extended Stay America closest to my house just in case.
So what else do I want to do before my concert tomorrow evening? I think I'll save hat shopping until one of the days I don't have anything going on in the evening. I was looking at the map just now, and think maybe I'll start by heading over to Southwark, going to the Market & Cathedral there, and to Tate Modern (which I've still never been to yet) on the way over to Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery & the Portrait Gallery and St Martin in the Fields which is where the concert is.
